Years 11 and 12 can undertake subjects either online or on
campus. Subjects that are successfully completed count towards
the Queensland Certificate of Education and can be credited
towards university study after high school. Students who pass
SUN courses and who meet all prerequisites are also guaranteed
entry into most related undergraduate degrees at CQUni.
All universities have their own rules for admission, so refer to
CQUni’s website and the local tertiary admissions centre’s
Costs and scholarships
CQUni offers Commonwealth Supported Places (CSPs) to
domestic students. In addition to government scholarships (see
page 40 for more details), the following are just some of the
prizes, bursaries and scholarships that are awarded to
undergraduate students. To find out more about eligibility criteria,
contact CQUni directly.
Vice-Chancellor’s Academic Excellence Scholarship: This
scholarship covers tuition fees for the duration of the course. It is
awarded to high-achieving school leavers who have achieved an
OP 1 to 3 or equivalent.
Accommodation Scholarship: This scholarship covers the full
cost of accommodation at Capricornia College Rockhampton or
the Mackay Student Residential Accommodation for one year. It
is awarded to commencing undergraduate students who are from
a rural or regional area and can demonstrate financial need.
Equity Merit Scholarship: This scholarship provides a one-off
payment of $600 (or $300 for part-time students) to cover study
expenses such as textbooks. It is awarded to students who can
demonstrate academic merit and financial need.
The CQUni library is made up of a number of campus branches
and is responsible for the delivery of library and information
services to the community, as well as offering assistance to
students, irrespective of their mode of study. Students can use
library services to access electronic journals, arrange inter-library
loans and take part in information literacy training.
Learning Skills Unit staff assist with maths, science,
computing and communication skills. They also help students to
develop study techniques and methods for completing
assignments. Distance education students can access study
support services such as mentoring, self-directed study groups
and course advice.
CQUni’s Monitoring Academic Progress (MAP) scheme aims
to monitor students’ academic progress and tailor learning
support to meet their needs. The main campuses also run a peer
mentor program to help first-year students adjust to university life.
